Strandhill is Ireland's surf town — a vast Atlantic beach break below Knocknarea, rated among Europe's best surfing beaches and fronting a thriving village. But it is not a swimming beach: swimming is not allowed here and never has been safe, because of permanent rip currents and heavy swell. Come instead for the surf, the Voya seaweed baths, Shells Café and The Strand Bar, the Warriors Run and the Queen Maeve Trail up Knocknarea. For a swim, the nearest safe beaches are Rosses Point and Enniscrone.
