About Rosses Point Beach

Rosses Point is a Blue Flag beach on a scenic peninsula north of Sligo town, a sandy strand looking out to Coney Island, the Metal Man and Benbulben beyond. Lifeguarded in summer with safe, family-friendly swimming, it is a beautiful, popular beach in Yeats Country, with a championship golf links and the village close by.

Rosses Point in detail

Rosses Point has three sandy beaches — First, Second and Third — with gently shallow, family-friendly swimming, lifeguards in summer and showers and toilets at the strand. From the pier you can take a boat across to Coney Island or head out sea angling with Ewing's. Above the shore stands the Metal Man, a cast-iron navigation beacon in place since 1821, and the whole peninsula is steeped in Yeats associations; the house known as Elsinore looks out over the water. It is one of the loveliest corners of Yeats Country.

Nearby beaches

The line of stone pillars from Rosses Point marks the tidal crossing to Coney Island — and the pier boats are the safe way across when the tide is in.
