About Silver Strand (Ballycotton)

Silver Strand is a sandy beach at the edge of Ballycotton village and the first in the long line of strands that runs east along Ballycotton Bay. You reach it on foot from the village, down the slipway to the left of the village sign, with public toilets at the nearby Sea Church. There is no beach car park, so use the village parking and walk in. At low tide the sand opens into a near-continuous 4-mile beach walk east to Ballycrenane, with stepping stones across the stream at Ardnahinch. The famous Ballycotton cliff walk and the wreck of the ghost ship MV Alta are close by. There is no lifeguard, so swim with care and always check the tide before setting out along the strand.

Along the Ballycotton Bay strand

At low tide these strands join into a near-continuous 4-mile walk running east from Silver Strand at Ballycotton village through Ballynamona, Ardnahinch and Garryvoe to Ballycrenane, with stepping stones across the stream at Ardnahinch. Only attempt it on a falling or low tide, and check the tide times before you set out.
