About Garryvoe

Garryvoe is the busy family hub of the Ballycotton Bay strand line, a mixed pebble-and-sand beach off the Ladysbridge–Shanagarry road with everything a day out needs close at hand: a public car park, toilets, a children's playground and picnic area, and wheelchair access down to the beach, with the Garryvoe Hotel right next door. The water shelves gently and runs noticeably warm and shallow by late summer, making it one of the more forgiving swims on this stretch of East Cork. It anchors the eastern end of the Ballycotton Bay low-tide walk, completing the roughly 4-mile chain that runs from Silver Strand at Ballycotton village through Ballynamona and Ardnahinch to Ballycrenane — only attempt the full walk on a falling or low tide, and check the tide times first.

At low tide these strands join into a near-continuous 4-mile walk running east from Silver Strand at Ballycotton village through Ballynamona, Ardnahinch and Garryvoe to Ballycrenane, with stepping stones across the stream at Ardnahinch.
