About Ardnahinch, Shanagarry

Ardnahinch is a Green Coast beach near Shanagarry and Garryvoe in East Cork, a sandy strand on the Ballycotton coast. There is no lifeguard, so swimming should be taken with care, but the long sands and gentle waves make it a popular spot for walking and a summer dip, with the famous Ballycotton cliff walk and Stephen Pearce pottery close by. Ardnahinch is the locals' quieter alternative when Garryvoe fills, with views across to the Ballycotton Island lighthouse. It sits on the Ballycotton Bay strand line: at low tide the beaches link into a near-continuous 4-mile walk from Silver Strand east to Ballycrenane, and the stepping stones here at Ardnahinch carry you across the stream — only attempt it on a falling or low tide.

Along the Ballycotton Bay strand

At low tide these strands join into a near-continuous 4-mile walk running east from Silver Strand at Ballycotton village through Ballynamona, Ardnahinch and Garryvoe to Ballycrenane, with stepping stones across the stream at Ardnahinch. Only attempt it on a falling or low tide, and check the tide times before you set out.
