Loughshinny is a tiny, sheltered sandy cove wrapped around a small working harbour between Rush and Skerries — one of the quietest and prettiest spots on the north Dublin coast. The EPA classifies the water Good. The real curiosity here is the geology: the dramatically folded rock strata in the cliffs beside the beach, contorted into tight zigzags, are a well-known feature for anyone with an eye for the coast. Sheltered and low-key, it is a lovely place for a calm-water dip and a poke around the rock pools. Check the tide and local signage before swimming.
