About Ballydowane Cove

Ballydowane is a small sheltered cove between Bunmahon and Stradbally, fronted by towering sculpted sea stacks — the Copper Coast at its most otherworldly. A signed local road leads to a small parking area above the cove. The sand is coarse and boulder-strewn and the cliffs are fossil-bearing, which makes it a photographers' and geologists' cove above all. Rip tides are reported here, so it is not a place for casual swimming — paddle with care.
