Wine Strand, or Trá an Fhíona, is a small, sheltered cove of clear water tucked among houses on Smerwick Harbour near Ballyferriter, in the West Kerry Gaeltacht. Its name recalls centuries of wine being landed here from the Continent, and today it is a quiet, local sort of beach where you will rarely find more than a handful of people. The sand shelves more steeply than nearby Béal Bán, so the water deepens quickly at high tide — fine for confident swimmers, but keep a close eye on children. It is a favourite spot for seaweed foraging, and at low water the sands run round towards Béal Bán. There is roadside parking on a narrow road, with no toilets and no lifeguard, so come prepared and park considerately.
