About Kilcummin Back Strand

Kilcummin Back Strand is a hidden sandy strand with a spectacular sea cave, tucked behind Lacken Strand at Kilcummin Head. It is a sea angler's and surfer's spot that never gets crowded — the rough approach over the hill from Kilcummin Pier, and the fact that it is not easy to find, is part of the charm, with informal parking near the pier. Swimming is not recommended here: paddling, angling and the view are what to come for. It was at Kilcummin that General Humbert's 1,100 French troops came ashore in August 1798; the landing stone stands at the pier, and the Tír Sáile sculptures line the approach.
