About Lacken Strand

Lacken Strand is a vast 600-acre tidal strand between Killala and Ballycastle in north Mayo — miles of unspoilt sand with long views across to the hills of Sligo and Donegal. Access is by local roads off the R314, at the Rathlacken side. It is a strand that floods on the incoming tide, so check tide times before walking out, and there is no lifeguard, so take care in the water. Lacken hosts the Lacken Races and the Band on the Strand concert, held on the sand when the tide allows, and draws kitesurfers and sea-trout anglers. The Céide Fields and the Tír Sáile sculpture trail are close by, making it a fine base for exploring the north Mayo coast.
