Fermoyle Strand, or Trá Fhormaoileach, is the westernmost stretch of Brandon Bay, the great 12-mile arc of sand that is the longest beach in Ireland. It runs at the foot of Mount Brandon near Cloghane, reached by the spectacular Conor Pass drive from Dingle, with the Dingle Way footpath tracing the top of the strand. This is a wild, uncrowded beach of firm sand and rolling Atlantic surf, with room to walk for as long as your legs will carry you. The mountains rise sharply behind, and on a clear day the whole sweep of the bay opens out towards the Maharees. There is no lifeguard here, so anyone going in should know the conditions and respect the currents that can run along an open Atlantic strand of this scale.

Fermoyle, Kilcummin, Stradbally and Gowlane are four stretches of a single unbroken strand — the 12-mile sweep of Brandon Bay, the longest beach in Ireland — running from the foot of Mount Brandon near Cloghane round to the Maharees peninsula.
