About Booley Bay
Booley Bay is the larger of two sheltered golden coves tucked beneath the cliffs on the western Hook shore, the twin of Dollar Bay right next door. A Green Coast Award beach, it sits under cliffs of sandstone and shale around 500 million years old — the oldest rocks on the Hook Peninsula. Parking is limited to roughly twenty cars down a country lane, and there are hidden rocks in the water, so take care when swimming; there is no lifeguard. Quiet for most of the year, it is a peaceful spot for a swim, a scramble in the rock pools or a walk, with the sheltered waters of Waterford Harbour and westerly estuary sunsets all around.
