About Ballinesker Beach

Ballinesker is the beach where Steven Spielberg filmed the Omaha Beach D-Day landing sequence for Saving Private Ryan — Failte Ireland and Visit Wexford both place the shoot here, on this broad Blue Flag strand at the southern end of the great Curracloe dune system. A sweep of golden sand and dunes on the north Wexford coast, it is lifeguarded in summer and popular for swimming, beginner surfing, birdwatching and shell-collecting, with a surf school nearby. As part of one long continuous beach with a tidal drift, swimming is safest between the lifeguard flags.
