White Bay (Roches Point)
About White Bay (Roches Point)
White Bay is a wide sandy bay at the foot of Roches Point lighthouse, at the mouth of Cork Harbour, and the lighthouse is very much its visual anchor. There is a car park between Whitegate and Roches Point with a path leading down to the beach, making it an easy family stop on the harbour coast. The bay is at its best at low tide, when the full sweep of sand is exposed; it covers as the tide comes in, so it is very tide-dependent. There is no lifeguard, so keep an eye on children and check the tide times before you go, taking care not to be caught out by the incoming water. With the lighthouse above and the harbour mouth beyond, it is a scenic, relaxed East Cork beach.
