About The Murrough (Wicklow Town Beach)

The Murrough is Wicklow Town's own beach — a long stony strand running north along the shore in front of the Murrough wetlands, the largest coastal wetland on the east coast, which stretch some fifteen kilometres towards Greystones. Waterfront car parks line the beach (the north section is free, the south is pay-and-display), with public toilets a short walk away. It is the home water of the Wicklow Sea Swimming Club, one of the largest open-water swimming clubs in the country, and a favourite with birdwatchers for the wetland and shore birds alongside. The water is monitored by the county council as a non-identified bathing water, so it carries no official EPA annual classification — check local signage before swimming.
