Silver Strand (Málainn Bhig) is a secluded horseshoe of golden sand tucked beneath cliffs at the tip of the Slieve League peninsula, regularly named among Ireland's finest beaches. A free clifftop car park sits above, from where around 170 steps — with handrails and rest benches — drop down the cliff face to the sand; the descent rules it out for limited mobility, though the viewpoint at the car park is reward enough on its own. There is no lifeguard and only portable toilets, so this is one for capable swimmers who check conditions first. Sheltered when calm, with sea arches, shimmering rock and views out to Rathlin O'Birne island, it is a small, wild cove that repays the effort of reaching it.
