About Ross Beach, Killala

Ross Beach near Killala is a Blue Flag beach on the north Mayo coast, a sandy strand on Killala Bay with dunes behind and views across to the hills of Sligo. Fully serviced, it is lifeguarded in the high season and has a picnic area, parking, toilets and showers, with rock pools to explore along the left-hand stretch. The Ross Loop walk runs from the beach past the restored coastguard station. It is a popular family and watersports beach with some Atlantic surf, in a quiet bay setting near the historic town of Killala on the Wild Atlantic Way. Coastal erosion reshapes the strand a little each year, so the landscape is never quite the same twice. There are strong currents here — stay within the designated, lifeguarded swimming area.
