About Reenroe (Reen Rua)

Reenroe, or Reen Rua, is a 1.5km sweep of sand between Waterville and Ballinskelligs on the Skellig Coast, with the Skellig Islands often visible out to sea. Its low gradient gives a long, shallow bathing area that suits smaller swimmers and paddlers, and the clean Atlantic water and steady breeze have made it a well-known surf and kite-surf beach on this stretch of the Iveragh Peninsula. It is reached off the R567 by a single-track road that widens into parking at the beach. Lifebuoys are in place, but there is no lifeguard, so swimming should be taken with care. Quiet, scenic and easy to reach, it pairs naturally with a visit to the Gaeltacht village of Ballinskelligs just along the coast.
