About Myrtleville Beach

Myrtleville is the closest sandy beach to Cork city, a sheltered curve of sand and pebble with rock pools tucked below low cliffs on the harbour’s western shoulder. It has a genuine year-round swimming culture: the Myrtleville Swimmers, an open-water community with its own safety guidance, meet here through every season, and seals are a common sight offshore. There is no official car park — visitors use the wide approach road, and the golden rule is never to block it. Cold showers and bins are provided, but there are no toilets and no lifeguard; the nearest lifeguarded beach is Fountainstown. Swimming is for confident, prepared swimmers who check the conditions first — a lovely, characterful spot rather than a supervised family strand.
