About Keeldra Lough

Keeldra Lough is Leitrim's only designated bathing water — a small, clean lake with a modest beach near Cloone and Mohill in the drumlin country of south Leitrim. Rated Excellent in the latest EPA classification, it is a quiet, off-the-beaten-track spot for a freshwater swim among the little hills and lakes that define this part of the county. Leitrim is famous for having Ireland's shortest coastline — just about four kilometres of Atlantic shore at Tullaghan, with no designated beach on it — so the county's official bathing water is inland, here at Keeldra. Parking and facilities are basic and still to be confirmed; come for the peace and the water.
