About Galley Cove

Galley Cove is a small, sheltered sandy beach a short way west of Crookhaven at the south-western tip of Ireland, a pretty cove of pale sand backed by dunes and looking out towards the Fastnet Rock lighthouse. From the beach you can pick up the walk out to Brow Head — the most southerly point on the Irish mainland — where the ruins of a Marconi wireless station and a Napoleonic-era signal tower crown the headland. A Green Coast beach with calm, clear and safely sheltered water, it has a car park close to beach level, one of the few easily accessible spots on this rugged coast. There is no lifeguard, so swim with care, but Galley Cove and the village of Crookhaven make a memorable end-of-the-road day out.
