Courtown North
About Courtown North
Courtown North is the long strand running north from the harbour village of Courtown, about six kilometres south-east of Gorey. An EPA-identified bathing water rated Excellent, it is a fine-sand beach backed by dunes and woodland, lifeguarded through the summer with year-round toilets and accessible facilities reached by a wooden walkway from the car park. Coastal erosion has reshaped the shoreline over the years, and the main access and lifeguard station have been moved northwards to follow the widest, safest sand — swim within the flagged area and check the notice boards at the beach. Narrower near the access points, the strand broadens the further north you walk, making it a favourite for long walks, families and summer swimming, with the harbour, canal and village amenities close by.
