About Coolmaine Beach

Coolmaine is a sheltered sandy beach on the eastern side of the Kilbrittain estuary near Kinsale, where the water is shallow and noticeably calmer than the open coast. It is a distinct beach from neighbouring Harbour View — the two are adjacent but separate, and some sources wrongly treat them as one; at low tide the sand links across to Harbour View along the strand. Coolmain Castle, once the European base of Roy Disney, stands close by. Parking is roadside and informal, so arrive early and park considerately. There is no lifeguard, and strong currents are possible in the wider bay, so keep to the calmer inner strand and swim with care on this quiet corner of the West Cork coast.
