About Bunbeg / Magheragallan (Bád Eddie)

This long sandy Gweedore strand is known the length of the country for one thing: Bád Eddie, the wooden boat wrecked here in the 1970s and left to weather on the sand, now one of Donegal's most photographed landmarks. Access is at Bunbeg, with a dune loop trail linking the Magheragallan and Bunbeg beaches for an easy walk through the marram. The wreck has starred in music videos down the years — from Clannad to the Bono era — and sits at the heart of the Donegal Gaeltacht, with Irish the everyday language of the townlands around it. The primary parking point is still to be confirmed, so allow time to find your way in; once there, it is a wide, breezy strand made for walking and photographs.
