Ballycuggeran
About Ballycuggeran
Ballycuggeran is a freshwater Blue Flag bathing area on the shore of Lough Derg near Killaloe, at the Two Mile Gate amenity. Lifeguarded in summer, its calm, clean lake water makes it a popular and safe spot for swimming, with woodland walks and the Lough Derg Way close by. A gentler, inland alternative to the Atlantic coast, it suits families and those seeking sheltered water among the hills of east Clare.
Two Mile Gate and the lakeshore walks
The bathing area is at Two Mile Gate, about 5km from Killaloe on the shore of Lough Derg. There is a kept grassy area behind a sandy shore, with a shallow, gently shelving entry that suits children and a slipway for those wanting deeper water. Above the shore, the wooded Ballycuggeran loop walks climb through the trees for views over the lake.
